Sheila was raised in Vancouver. She obtained her B.Ed. from U.B.C. . Childhood experiences in Howe Sound in the 1950’s led to a life long connection with the forest and the sea.
In this series of paintings I would like to draw attention to the importance and complexity of the natural world beneath our feet. The humble natural objects on the beach have been shaped by the waves and weather into arrangements that reflect the power of their environment. Working on a larger canvas to interpret the mysterious tangles of life and death on the shoreline has enabled me to compose and paint with increasing freedom and vigour.
