Artist Statement:
Every one of my childhood homes was located near a railway crossing.
There Goes the Train refers to a phrase my father repeated each time the night train passed through the countryside near our home. “There goes the train! One day we’ll be on it.” Part lament, part prayer, part wish: this phrase has new meaning as my father – elderly and recovering from a stroke – has less and less to say to his family.
Each drawing in this exhibition is related to this strange nightly mantra from many years ago — one most of my family including my father have long forgotten.
