Title: 15 452 kilometres
Piece description: An offering of what it feels like to be 15 452 kilometres away from home. An offering of the feeling of globalization in its pocket of colonialism and greener pastures. A performance of its hopes, its dreams, its fruits, its opportunities, its disaster, its chaos, its longing, its poverty, its theft, its delusions.
Eddy van Wyk is a Namibian multidisciplinary artist. She lives and works on unceded Coast Salish territory. Her training and practise comes from a variety of experimental and embodied practises in physical theatre. She is the winner of the TD Fringe Forward Award 2019 for her one-woman show, tadpole: the last episode.
She has worked locally with more than 10 independent theatre companies and has performed internationally at the National Arts Festival in South Africa on two occasions. Her passion for performance has been charged and maintained for 14 years.
She is an advocate for non-neurotypical perspectives, self-study, peculiarity, habit and ritual, efficiency and nature’s knowledge.
About Plaskett Limited Music Residences
The Plaskett Limited Music Program provides pandemic appropriate opportunities for artists to work and for the public to enjoy performances. Artists will be present three times in the week, with a schedule as follows: Thursday and Friday 1:00 pm-4:00 pm; Saturday 7:00 pm-8:30pm. This will be an extension of the existing Gallery program, with groups booking 30-minute slots to see the gallery show and the performers. Finally, all artists will return to participate in a showcase/pandemic reflection event on Sunday August 30th. Featuring MC Allan Morgan, all artists will perform, and all will share some reflections about the first five months under pandemic and how it has impacted their lives, careers, and artistic practice.
